Abstract
Purpose: This study aimed to examine the effects of the Expressive Literary Therapy Program (ELTP) on individuals with mental illness.

Methods: The study employed a pre- and post-test design with non-equivalent control groups, consisting of 20 participants in the experimental group and 16 in the control group. The experimental group engaged in an eight-session ELTP, while the control group participated in a six-session Integrated Physical Activity Program. The study utilized the Korean version of the Positive and Negative Affect Scale (PANAS) and self-esteem scales as instruments. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, independent t-tests, and paired t-tests.

Results: The findings confirmed that ELTP serves an effective intervention for reducing negative effects and improving self-esteem.

Conclusion: The results indicate that ELTP holds promise as a useful nursing intervention program for individuals with mental illness, facilitating self-expression and contributing to improvements in emotion and self-esteem.
